Do You Love Me

After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter,
“Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “you know I love you.”
“Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him.
John 21: New Living Translation (NLT) Footnotes: 21:15 Or more than these others do?
How much do you love, Jesus?
Believer, if Jesus was sitting at your breakfast table and you had just finished eating, and he looked at you and asked, “Do you love me?”
What would you say?
Would you feel uncomfortable, put on the spot, would you hesitate and wonder where he was going with that question?
Or would you without hesitation, give an emphatic, “Yes, Lord, you know I love you.”
Jesus is with you each and every day…whether it is at breakfast or on the go…He is there and he’s asking… “Do you love me?”
He knew Peter and he knew Peter’s heart. He knew Peter loved him…but he wanted to hear Peter say it. Jesus knew that in just a few hours, Peter would deny him. He also knew that when Peter realized what he had done and repented that He would indeed feed his lambs, care for his sheep and would love him to the point of death.
Love is in the air…well at least the pagan celebration of Love…Valentine’s Day… commercial ads, candy, drawings and cards of big red hearts and gifts of flowers…sweetheart’s scurry around for tokens to be given once a year to show how much everyone is loved.
Well not everyone…there are the ones who are lonely and alone…lost lambs so to speak who feel as though no one in the world loves them…
Why am I saying this…
Well because it’s Valentine’s Day of course.
Every year, year in and year out…the “holy days” are celebrated.
Am I being cynical? Maybe, just a little.
Oh yeah back at the table, Jesus said, “Peter, do you love me?”
Peter replies, “Yes Lord, you know I love you.”
Jesus said, “Then feed my lambs.”
Three times Jesus asked Peter the same question. He was trying to get a point across.
If you really, really, really love me then do what I have asked you do.
Jesus is saying the same thing to you and to me today…”If you really, love, me. Do what I’ve asked you to do. Follow me.”

I love the Lord Jesus Christ and am passionate about writing. I hope you enjoy the blog and come to visit often. Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. “Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. Habakkuk 2: 2-4
