Crosby<\/strong>, was an American mission worker, poet, lyricist, and composer. She was a prolific hymnist, writing more than 8,000\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hymns\">hymns<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gospel_music\">gospel songs<\/a>,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fanny_Crosby#cite_note-1\">[a]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0with more than 100 million copies printed.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fanny_Crosby#cite_note-2\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0She is also known for her teaching and her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rescue_mission\">rescue mission<\/a>\u00a0work. By the end of the 19th century, she was a household name.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fanny_Crosby#cite_note-FOOTNOTEMorgan2003183-3\">[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/h5>\n<h5>Crosby was known as the &#8220;Queen of Gospel Song Writers&#8221;<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fanny_Crosby#cite_note-Wilhoit1984-4\">[3]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0and as the &#8220;Mother of modern congregational singing in America&#8221;,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fanny_Crosby#cite_note-5\">[4]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0with most American\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hymnal\">hymnals<\/a>\u00a0containing her work.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fanny_Crosby#cite_note-FOOTNOTEChurch_Publishing2010216%E2%80%93217-6\">[5]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Her gospel songs were &#8220;paradigmatic of all revival music&#8221;,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fanny_Crosby#cite_note-FOOTNOTEWilhoff200592-7\">[6]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ira_Sankey\">Ira Sankey<\/a>\u00a0attributed the success of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moody_and_Sankey\">Moody and Sankey<\/a>\u00a0evangelical campaigns largely to Crosby&#8217;s hymns.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fanny_Crosby#cite_note-8\">[7]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Some of Crosby&#8217;s best-known songs include &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pass_Me_Not,_O_Gentle_Saviour\">Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour<\/a>&#8220;, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blessed_Assurance\">Blessed Assurance<\/a>&#8220;, &#8220;Jesus Is Tenderly Calling You Home&#8221;, &#8220;Praise Him, Praise Him&#8221;, &#8220;Rescue the Perishing&#8221;, and &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/To_God_Be_the_Glory\">To God Be the Glory<\/a>&#8220;.
