I’m posting this piece written by my friend April Wall. April knows first hand what it’s like to be in a relationship with someone who suffers from addiction.\u00a0She has survived years of hurt and pain through the process. In talking with her I understand her heart.\u00a0She\u00a0said, “If this encourages just one person, it is worth it.” I thank God for his mercy and his grace to help us understand that only his love can sustain us through this\u00a0life. As his children, we lean on him for wisdom and hope.\u00a0Our prayer is\u00a0for deliverance for all those we love who are suffering, that somehow, someway, they will find his peace and healing.<\/h6>\n

Trying to understand an alcoholic is like trying to<\/h6>\n
Solve a 1000 piece puzzle.<\/h6>\n
After you finish; you find that you still\u00a0have missing pieces.<\/h6>\n
You\u2019re frustrated that you wasted so much time and energy.<\/h6>\n
Do you quit?<\/h6>\n
Or, do you continue the insanity of trying to find the missing pieces,<\/h6>\n
But it\u2019s to no avail.<\/h6>\n
We realize it\u2019s a disease that they can\u2019t control.<\/h6>\n
They didn\u2019t cause it, and there is no cure.<\/h6>\n
It\u2019s then we can begin to understand and let go of trying to fix them.<\/h6>\n
The best remedy is to love them and know they are \u201cchildren of God<\/em>\u201d<\/h6>\n
Different and special\u2026<\/h6>\n
It\u2019s not easy living with them~<\/h6>\n
But it\u2019s not easy living without them either.<\/h6>\n
We are all human and complex when it comes to our<\/h6>\n
Feelings and emotions\u2026<\/h6>\n
We must accept them for who they are<\/h6>\n
Both the good, and the bad, and not judge them<\/h6>\n
Because they don\u2019t fit a mold we enjoy~<\/h6>\n
Living one day at a time<\/h6>\n
Forgetting our yesterday\u2019s, for they are gone<\/h6>\n
Don\u2019t look for tomorrows, for we were never promised<\/h6>\n
But live only in this \u201cmoment\u201d we call the present.<\/h6>\n
It\u2019s a gift from our Heavenly Father who created us<\/h6>\n
To love each other<\/h6>\n
The way He loves us\u2026<\/h6>\n
If we can let God into our lives<\/h6>\n
And let go of our expectation<\/h6>\n
We might just find<\/h6>\n
Serenity\u2026<\/h6>\n
It starts with us.<\/h6>\n
We are our brother\u2019s keeper<\/h6>\n
Each one of us is here for a reason<\/h6>\n
Our life is never going to be smooth sailing<\/h6>\n
We were told that too.<\/h6>\n
So be kind to all because you never know<\/h6>\n
The pain someone is suffering\u2026<\/h6>\n
A kind word or a warm smile<\/h6>\n
May be just enough…<\/h6>\n
To get them through the day.<\/h6>\n
